How to Correctly Maintain your Dishwasher Filter

1. Consult the Manual – Refer to your dishwasher’s user manual to locate the filter and learn about any specific instructions or guidelines provided by the manufacturer.
2. Prepare Your Workspace – Lay down a towel or mat to catch any water or debris that may come out during the process. You also may want to wear gloves to protect your hands.
3. Open the Dishwasher Door – Fully open the dishwasher door to access the filter. The filter is typically located at the bottom of the dishwasher, near the spray arm.
4. Remove the Lower Rack – If your dishwasher has a lower rack, remove it to access the filter more easily.
5. Identify the Filter – Locate the filter assembly. There are usually two main types: a cylindrical filter and a fine mesh filter. Some dishwashers have both.
6. Remove the Filter Assembly – Depending on your dishwasher model, the filter assembly may twist or lift out. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to safely remove it. Be cautious as there may be dirty water trapped in the filter.
7. Clean the Filter – Take the filter assembly to the sink and rinse it under warm, running water. Use a soft brush or a toothbrush to remove any stubborn debris or residue. Ensure all parts of the filter are thoroughly cleaned.
8. Inspect and Clean the Filter Housing – While the filter assembly is out, inspect the filter housing inside the dishwasher. Remove any debris or food particles that may have accumulated there.

10. Replace the Lower Rack – If you removed the lower rack, carefully slide it back into the dishwasher.
11. Close the Dishwasher Door – Close the dishwasher door securely.
