Trainee Domestic Appliance Engineer – Nationwide

NAC are looking for enthusiastic, keen to learn individuals that are over 21 years of age with a full driving license to join us as Trainee Domestic Appliance Engineers. As a trainee domestic appliance engineer, you will be trained to diagnose and repair faults to a huge range of multi-brand domestic appliances as a City & Guilds accredited engineer, such as:

  • Washing Machines
  • Dishwashers
  • Fridges / Freezers
  • Tumble Dryers
  • Ovens / Hobs / Cookers

We are looking for people who want to become a specialist in what they do. We are recruiting motivated people that we will train in-depth on the white goods appliance range to the point whereby in time, they become an expert on that product range.

Do you have great interpersonal skills?
Can you work independently and have great problem-solving skills?

If this sounds like you, we have an exciting opportunity, where you can take the next step in your career and work with a leading independent nationwide appliance repair  brand.

What will you be doing on a daily basis?

In this key role you will be carrying out field based repairs to domestic appliances that are installed at customer premises in-line with our high standards. As a field-based trainee domestic appliance engineer,  you will be trained to carry out diagnostic testing to find faults and then given the skills to repair faulty appliances on all domestic white goods – washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, cookers and refrigeration.

The daily role will involve travelling between 5-10 customers per day in the postcode areas that you are assigned upon joining.

The successful candidate will show interpersonal skills with our customers at all times. They will also be responsible for diary management, supporting the triage of customer’s complaints, managing appointments and accurate field diagnostics and inventory. All of which are critical to the role.

Training Roadmap…

Week 1 – Initial Induction – Initially, you will spend your first week having a full induction with one of our senior engineers. Administration aside, this week is primarily a chance for you to see what life will be like at NAC post training, first hand. It will give you a great insight in to NAC and the standard of service we strive to offer our customers.

Week 2 & 3 – Cuty & Guilds Accredited Foundation Training – You will attend our Wakefield based training centre where we’ll put you through our City & Guilds Accredited Foundation Training programme. This training has been specially designed to give a basic insight in to all the appliance types, what components make them up, what the components do and how to fault find by testing all the components individually to find any that might be faulty.

Weeks 4-7 – Field Based Training – You will return to the area and senior engineer that you completed your week 1 induction with to start your field based training. During this time, you’ll be getting your hands on all the machines, under strict supervision to gain basic field experience. You will start to use our job management system and portals for technical assistance and you’ll fine-tune your inter-personal skills by dealing with different customers in different scenarios daily.

Week 8 – Final Assessments and Sign-Off – You will attend our Wakefield HQ one more time to formally complete your initial training and you will then be issued your company van and all equipment.

Week 9 – You will begin your journey as a Trainee Domestic Appliance Engineer in your own area on a reduced allocation of 5 jobs per day. You will have full remote support and you will have a great bond with your mentor engineer by this point so even though you’ll be on patch in your own van, you’re never alone!

From there, we will implement a plan consisting of a series of reviews to monitor your performance, give further training and re-assess your package.

Staying away from home (fully expensed)…

It is likely that you will have to stay away from home for the initial training period. Our training centre is based in Wakefield WF4 3BA and our remote, mentor engineers are based in different parts of the UK. We will obviously try our best to pair you with the most local mentor engineer for your initial training but even then, that may be more than a daily commute to get to. At worst, you may be expected to stay away from home, Monday – Thursday nights for the initial 7 weeks. If you do need to stay away from home, your travel, hotel and meals are all provided for you by NAC.

You will not be required to work Saturdays or Sundays so you will always have the weekends to go home for some rest and relaxation time during the training period.

Once you have completed your training, you only attend Wakefield for further one / two day courses or development training at planned intervals so there is no requirement for you to travel away from home frequently.

What experience & skills do you need to succeed in this role?

  • Problem-Solving skills.
  • A responsible attitude to health and safety.
  • Strong communication skills, for talking to customers.
  • To be able to work quickly, sometimes under pressure.
  • To be able to work well on their own, without supervision.
  • To be able to complete records and reports.
  • To be able to use a laptop computer or tablet for diagnostic and report work.
  • The willingness to upskill if required and shows competence in other areas.

We're striving to be the best...

We’re investing heavily in training and development across the entire company to build the most recognised and trusted brand for out-of-warranty appliance repairs. In the past two years, we’ve opened our own dedicated Training Centre (City & Guilds and CPD accredited), launched a comprehensive online training portal, and doubled the size of our team. This is just the beginning – we’re committed to continuous growth and excellence for everyone who joins us.

Benefits and Development

You’ll enjoy industry-leading pay (£32,000–£35,000 pa for employed engineers, no overtime or sales required) plus a new or nearly new fully branded van, iPhone, and the latest tech to keep you connected. We invest heavily in your development with comprehensive training and support, helping you excel in a multi-brand repair environment – even if you’re not yet gas qualified.

The Difference Between Working for NAC and a Manufacturer

NAC is a true multi-brand repair service – from Beko to Miele – so every job is different, giving your skills serious variety and growth. Unlike manufacturer roles, we focus on thorough fault-finding rather than first-time fixes or heavy van stock. You’ll cover a larger area as an on-demand service, but time balances out. We emphasise proper diagnostics using test meters, ensuring customers only pay for what they need – building your expertise and confidence for future self-employment.

We Have an Excellent Reputation

Our 4.7 Trustpilot rating and glowing customer feedback prove our commitment to quality repairs and service. Working here helps you develop skills and confidence that will serve you throughout your career – especially if you aspire to go self-employed one day.

Time Off and Rewards

Enjoy 28 days holiday (including bank holidays), rising to 33 days with service. We also reward hard work with random free days or half-days off. Twice a year, we bring everyone together in Wakefield for toolbox talks, training, and social events – all expenses paid, including hotel, food, and drinks.

Mentoring – Share Your Skills

Experienced engineers can become mentors, supporting trainees over the phone or in the van (on a reduced job allocation). It’s a great way to develop leadership skills while helping the next generation – perfect if you enjoy sharing knowledge.

Trainee Engineers

No experience? No problem. We welcome enthusiastic learners over 21 with a full driving licence. You’ll start with 2 weeks at our Wakefield training centre, followed by at least 4 weeks shadowing a mentor engineer. After that, we ease you in gently with a reduced diary and close supervision. Full training typically takes 6–12 months, tailored to your progress, leading to City & Guilds accreditation.

"It was great to talk to a proper person who understood the problem involved. The company was so efficient keeping me up to date with regular up-dates as to when an engineer would arrive. When he did, the engineer was friendly and soon had our poorly machine up and running. Well done to you all."
David Clarke - 15/01/2026
"It was great to talk to a proper person who understood the problem I had. I was kept up to date with all that was going on and kept informed as to when the engineer was going to be at our house. The engineer was extremely efficient and friendly and soon had our machine running well. Well done to you all"
David Clarke - 15/01/2026
"Prompt, efficient service and honest advice from Paul, who came to fix our upright freezer - that it would be cheaper to buy a replacement than a new motor and gas. Some companies might have taken advantage of our lack of knowledge and insisted on replacing the worn out parts."
